Despite being sent mildly insane by the ever-constant bleeping of a Garmin Cycle Satnav (sorry, we couldn't resist the pull of technology) the CNC team did successfully complete the South Downs Way cycle ride last month!
We set off from Winchester in dreary Saturday morning drizzle, cautiously optimistic about our chances of completing the challenge. It wasn't without its trials!
Some Unexpected Challenges!
Our preparation was thorough. Collectively we were able to complete climbs over 30 hills (and as a group, higher than the elevation of Everest.) But we didn't expect to have to perform some impromptu sheep herding and cattle rustling, as well as deer spotting, before reaching our destination!
As a team, we consumed 24 protein drinks, 24 energy bars, and over 20 litres of water. We only suffered two punctures, and somehow remained chipper despite the rather discouraging signposts along the way telling us how far we still had to go!
It was certainly an experience none of us will forget. We were delighted to have the opportunity to complete such a rewarding challenge and to raise funds for the wonderful charity St Barnabas House. St Barnabas House in Worthing provides specialist palliative care for adults with advanced, progressive, life-limiting illnesses and support for their families.
Fundraising Target Exceeded!!
Thanks to all the generous donations received we managed to raise 3,131.00 which is 125% of our target! Please visit our JustGiving page for more information.
