Stop using IE warns Microsoft

Businesses still using Internet Explorer should face the fact that Microsoft does not want them to use it anymore.

Microsoft’s worldwide lead for cyber security, Chris Jackson has gone on record to explain that IE is now not supported by new web standards.

While many sites accessed via IE still work fine, “developers by and large just aren’t testing for Internet Explorer these days. They’re testing on modern browsers” he blogged.

And yet IE still has a significant market share and many businesses across Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire still use it – unaware their digital marketing will not perform effectively. Given that the majority of visitors to their websites are using Chrome certain features on those sites may not work properly or they may not work at all.

The answer for these businesses is to switch to Chrome for the time being before getting an independent consultant to evaluate Microsoft’s Chromium-based browser once it’s launched. It’s set to replace Edge which has not been a success .

Uphill struggle

But the jury is out regarding Microsoft’s new browser. It may turn out to be great. What’s certain is it will face an uphill struggle to regain market share for Microsoft because Chrome is streets ahead already.

Gary Jowett, from Computer & Network Consultants in Brighton, said: “It’s understandable people who loved IE might be uneasy about making a switch, especially when Edge failed to meet expectations. However, if you keep using IE, your business will suffer. Potential customers may not be able to access all your online information and services and, as a result, they may choose competitors’ services instead. Given Microsoft’s stark warning about the perils of using IE, it’s a wise choice to use Chrome for the time being because it’s safe to assume that Chrome is what all web developers are testing against. And you can be sure new tools and applications will work properly for your customers.”
