CNC Newsletter Issue 5 2019

Welcome to the CNC newsletter.

In this edition we share our latest news on protecting your business from cyber crime.

Keeping your IT systems safe and secure is now a top priority for all businesses, large and small. Most businesses recognise that budgeting for IT security services to protect their systems from cyber crime is essential.

At CNC we are proactive in helping our customers to understand the many security threats which are out there, and in providing them with the products and services they need to stay protected and safe.

CNC Security Solutions

These are the latest security products and services which we offer to our customers:

BitLocker - Encryption for Windows 10

BitLocker gives you the option of encrypting your Windows 10 hard drive so that your data is protected if your computer is lost or stolen. Because the data on your hard drve is encrypted it cannot be accessed easily. Even if a malicious user takes the hard drive from your mobile machine and connects it to another machine.

To further improve security for customers, we are working towards encryption by default for all new machines.

DataControl - Protecting Virtual Servers (at VMware level)

HyTrust's DataControl product provides full server disk encryption for virtual servers. It encrypts the entire virtual server disk files, if held on a VMware host. Like BitLocker, it stops cyber criminals from accessing or corrupting the data held on your servers.

Data Security Plus - Monitor Access to your Shared Files

Data Security Plus, a Manage Engine product, monitors and records access to files on network shares.

With Data Security Plus you can set up rules to monitor specific operations, shares, people and alerts based on them. For example it will alert you if:

  • John deletes over 50 files from a folder within a certain timeframe
  • Jane comes back from holiday and creates 100 files in her home folder by uploading photos
  • Someone accesses an unusually large amount of data which they may be trying to steal

You are in control and you set up the rules to meet your business needs and vulnerabilities.

Cyber Essentials Certification

More and more customers are gaining and maintaining the Cyber Essentials certification.

Cyber Essentials is a government scheme to help businesses protect themselves against cyber attack and to demonstrate their commitment to cyber security.

Cyber Essentials focuses on the key security requirements for your computer network. One of the most important requirements is Mobile Device Management (MDM). MDM needs to be installed on all devices which have access to company data, whether personal or company-owned. This includes access to company emails. MDM ensures that the device has antivirus software operating, that its data is encrypted and that it is running the most up-to-date Operating System.

Many government contracts require Cyber Essentials certification and you will attract more business if potential clients can see that you take cyber security seriously. You can find out more about Cyber Essentials here. CNC can give you more information and help you achieve Cyber Essentials certification.

CNC can supply and advise you on BitLocker, HyTrust Data Control, Data Security Plus and Mobile Device Management.

We can also carry out a full security audit for your business if you are concerned about your company's security and potential vulnerabilities.
