A cut price computer can cost you money in the long term
Buying a new computer for your business is not an easy task. The technical jargon used by computer sales staff is frustrating and confusing. Many business owners are tempted by "bargains" in the sales. But don't be!
We often find ourselves picking up the pieces for business owners who have purchased a "bargain" computer, only to find that it doesn't do what they expected it to. Here are some of the common problems we come across.
"Bargain" Computer Problems:
- Incorrect operating system. The operating system supplied is the Home version of Windows. If you are using your computer for business purposes you need the Professional version of Windows
- Out of date processors which are unable to cope with the demands of modern computer applications. Leading to slow response and system 'lockups'
- Low quality manufacture leading to a shorter life. So it will need replacing sooner
- Inadequate warranties requiring return to the manufacturer. This is just not practical in a business environment
Buying a cheap computer often means more expense in the long run. Computers sold in the sales are usually old inventory which the manufacturers want to get rid of.
A warranty requiring return to the manufacturer isn't much use if you find your business without a computer for a week! Your bargain buy may have the 'latest i5 processor' but you need to check that it is at least the 8th generation version. The sales person in the high street store may have omitted to tell you this!
Information technology is an integral part of your business. Core activities cannot be done without it. IT is no longer a 'nice to have'. IT is critical to your business. Without computers it is no longer possible to serve your customers efficiently. Or to collaborate and share data with business partners effectively.
Improve Employee Satisfaction
Research has shown that giving your employees the best tools to do the job helps them be more productive, and gives them greater job satisfaction. At the end of the working day most people want to go home with a sense of achievement for a job well done.
If they have to spend lots of time troubleshooting, or waiting in a queue for the Call Centre Helpdesk, they are not going to enjoy their day. They return home angry and frustrated. They feel like they're doing their job with one hand tied behind their back.
If you invest in quality IT products and services your employees will be free to get on with, and to enjoy their work. It will probably save you money too.
- No more IT glitches costing time, money (and sanity!)
- Happier, more productive staff
- A stable, problem-free IT environment creating a sense of calmness and efficiency
