Protect your Business with Mobile Device Management

Remember the days when the only electronic devices in the office were a desktop computer and a landline phone. Fixed and easy to manage! Now they have laptops, tablets and smartphones which can be taken anywhere. Sometimes these are owned and provided by the business, but increasingly employees are using their own devices to access business systems and data.

  • How do you keep track of all these devices?
  • How do you control access to your business systems?
  • What happens if a device which is connected to your business systems is lost or stolen?

A Mobile Device Management system will address all the issues, allowing you to:

  • Log all devices for each employee
  • Define each employee's access to business systems
  • Wipe business data from a lost or stolen device

So your business reaps the benefits of easy, on-the-go access for your staff, but with the control and security you need. Your business data remains protected.

There are a number of mobile device management products available. Most of them are cloud-based. These ensure that employees do not breach company rules when accessing company data on their mobile device. Their emails and company documents are kept secure.

MDM functionality includes:

  • Online distribution of applications
  • Ability to change data and configuration settings remotely
  • Can be used for both company equipment and employee-owned devices

By controlling and protecting the data and configuration settings of all mobile devices in a network, MDM reduces support costs and minimises business risk, especially when devices are lost or stolen. If necessary a device can be remotely wiped of any company data or emails.

This is especially important since the introduction of GDPR legislation whereby hefty fines can be imposed for the misuse of personal data.

There are several software vendors who provide a MDM product including Microsoft, Blackberry, IBM, Citrix and VMware.

If you think your business would benefit from improved management of employees' smartphones, tablets and laptops get in touch. Call us on 01273 384100 or email us at sales@cnc-ltd.co.uk. We can advise on the best Mobile Device Management product for your business.

.uk Domain Names

You may be aware that there is just under a year left of the '.uk' Right of Registration period. If you have a domain name ending in .uk, for example .co.uk or.org.uk, you are entitled to the rights of a .uk domain name as well. The .uk names need to be registered before June 25th 2019. This means if you hold the .co.uk domain name you are automatically protected by Nominet (the official registry of .uk domain names) until this date.

After this date any unclaimed .uk domain names will be made available for registration from the 1st July 2019. This means that anyone, including a competitor, could obtain the rights to your company website name, but as a .uk rather than a .co.uk domain. To avoid this you will need to register the .uk domain name to which you are entitled before June 25th 2019.

In preparation for the June deadline, Nominet are offering all eligible website domain owners the .uk domain name free of charge for one year. After this normal charges will apply. The promotion will run between October 2018 and March 2019 to encourage people to register the .uk version of the .co.uk domain.
