  • Access SharePoint from your iPhone!

Microsoft have released a new SharePoint mobile app for Apple's operating system, iOS. This means you can now stay connected to all your important business information, documents, contacts, portals, websites etc., when you are out and about.

Just download the SharePoint app to your iPhone and voila! You have your SharePoint intranet in your pocket!

The new SharePoint mobile app helps you keep your work moving forward wherever you are, by providing quick access to your team sites, organisation portals and resources. It even gives you a view into what the people you work with are working on (access permitting.)

And this new app is infused with the intelligence of the Microsoft Graph, which applies machine learning to activity in Office 365 to connect you to the relevant documents and people around you. The SharePoint mobile app works with SharePoint Online in Office 365, and SharePoint Server (2013 and 2016.)

Once you launch the app on your iPhone, you'll be prompted to sign in with your SharePoint credentials. The SharePoint mobile app lets you easily switch between accounts.

The Sites tab takes you to a list of frequently visited items on your intranet site. Click on a site to see recent activity, recent files and the site's assets (documents, lists, subsites, pages and more.) You can also share the site. When you click to a team site, you immediately see how the SharePoint mobile app natively renders the site elements quickly and clearly.

The SharePoint mobile app also links to other Office apps. For example, when you click an Office document in the Recent files area, it will take you directly into the corresponding Office mobile app. Similarly, when you access a SharePoint document library within a team site, you will be taken into the OneDrive mobile app for iOS to view, share, discover and manage files stored across Office 365.

    What next for the Smartphone?

Windows 10 Mobile becomes a tablet, a laptop and a desktop!

Hewlett Packard (HP) has released a new Windows 10 Mobile which is far more than just a smartphone.

It is a 3-in-1 business device which sits in the palm of your hand, but with:

  • The experience of a PC
  • The versatility of a tablet
  • The connectivity of a smartphone
  • There are 2 SIM slots so you can have 2 SIM cards in the phone. For example, a work and a personal SIM. Or a local and an international SIM.

Laptop - The HP Elite x3 can expand into a laptop using the Mobile Extender. This is essentially a shell of a notebook that features a 12.5-inch, 1,080p display with a working trackpad and keyboard.

Desktop - The phone can also be used like a desktop computer, thanks to Continuum!

Continuum - Is a new type of connectivity which allows you to connect a Windows 10 Smartphone to a screen, mouse and keyboard!

So, the HP Elite X3 can become a desktop PC! You can still use as it as a phone but you now have the benefits of a desktop!

There are some limitations of course. For example, specific apps that only work on a desktop will not run on the X3. You would need to log in remotely to a different desktop and use that to run them.

If you would like to find out more about the HP X3 and Microsoft Continuum here are some useful links:

And finally, BBC TV Licensing is changing..

From September 1st you need to be covered by a TV Licence to download or watch BBC programmes on demand, including catch up TV, on BBC iPlayer. This applies to any device and provider you use. As well as for watching any live TV.

From a business perspective, the best way to make sure everyone on your premises is covered to watch or record live TV, and to watch or download BBC programmes on demand on iPlayer, is for you to buy a TV Licence for your business.
