Cyber crime is growing fast. Not just growing, but constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated.
The threat to your business computer systems has never been greater. In recent weeks we have seen a heightened threat to many businesses from Ransomware such as Cryptolocker. Some customers have been unlucky enough to be impacted in varying degrees.
Even if you have Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam software in place, and a Firewall, it is still possible to get infected by a virus or some ransomware, a type of malicious software which is designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid.
It is very easy to download a virus or ransomware on to your machine through an email or by browsing a website. Simply clicking on an email link or attachment is all it takes. Within minutes:
Windows can be corrupted
Other linked computers can be infected
Critical data can be destroyed
Don't Risk it! Follow these simple rules to keep your systems safe:
Never click on a link in an email if you don't recognize the sender and the website address. If you recognise the web address, open your web browser and manually enter the website address.
Never take advice from a caller who says your computer has a virus. They will want to take control of your computer and infect it. We have had a number of incidents when the caller has said they are from Microsoft!
Never open attachments you did not request, especially if they are Word or Excel files. These can contain viruses which will infect your computer if opened.
Basically, if you receive any email which you weren't expecting or which looks dodgy don't open it. Just delete it. Don't risk infecting your network with nasty malware or viruses.
Keeping Online Payments Secure
When paying for items online always check for the small padlock symbol in the address bar or browser window, and a web address beginning with 'https' (rather than http) The 's' means the website is secure.
CNC are always ready to help with the remedial work after a virus or malware attack. Restoring files from backups and cleaning off infections. But it is far better to prevent the attack in the first place, saving your business time and money.
The key thing is to educate all your staff not to click on anything suspicious. They should seek further assistance or simply delete the message. Cyber criminals are becoming more and more sophisticated. At first glance a malicious email might appear genuine. But if anything makes them question it, they should seek further advice before clicking.
